ABOUT US

Beginning a tradition of providing quality jewelry and exemplary customer service, L.A. Giacobbi was founded in 1886 by Louis A. Giacobbi and was located in San Francisco’s bustling Financial District. In the early days, L.A. Giacobbi sold jewelry, diamonds and gemstones exclusively to retailers. This model lasted until the 21st Century but with the times and business climate rapidly changing, L.A. Giacobbi also altered their business strategy. We still sell selected stones to other dealers. And beginning in 2012, L.A. Giacobbi started marketing to a select group of individuals.

In 1920’s Elvin Giacobbi merged his business with Joseph N. Wineroth Senior and together they created a partnership with the Granat Retail Jewelers– laying the foundation of innovation and creativity to better serve their clients. This exclusive partnership enabled them to design and manufacture jewelry, making high quality products available — for a fair price — to customers across the United States.

In 1967, World War II veteran, Joseph N. Wineroth Jr., inherited L.A. Giacobbi from his father, capitalizing upon his experience and know-how selling the Granat Manufacturing jewelry. During this era, the popular “web-lock” design was created – a permanent fastening/coupling system for the engagement ring and wedding ring – regularly selling out a year’s supply in one month.

L.A. Giacobbi’s current owner, Joseph N. Wineroth III (Joel) brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity and skill to his role, carrying on the L.A. Giacobbi tradition of exemplary customer service and innovation.

Joel joined the business in 1975 after graduating from the Gemological Institute of America with a graduate gemologist degree, where he was also awarded a certified gemologist degree. His time as an apprentice cutting diamonds in New York combined with his tenure in Antwerp, Belgium, learning the European methodology of sorting and grading diamonds, along with diverse techniques for cutting diamonds allow him to bring a unique perspective to L.A. Giacobbi’s customers.

Joel became President in 1982, working side-by-side and learning about customer relations and service from two 40-year veterans whom Joel credits with helping him hone the skills and focus that L.A. Giacobbi customers still value today.
